Fool Me Once is a free-to-try trap game for iPhone: one instruction, one shrinking timer, and 100 boards engineered to make you do the wrong thing. How to play
Every board gives you one instruction and a shrinking timer. Read it and do exactly what it says — but watch for the traps: opposites, double negatives, box-vs-text color tricks, memory tests that hide the answer, and rules that flip mid-run. You'll tap, hold, swipe, tap several in order, or sometimes do nothing at all.
You start with one heart and earn another at boards 20, 40, 60 and 80 — each heart absorbs a single mistake. Clear all 100 boards to win, or unlock the full game and test yourself in Endless mode, where the clock keeps closing in.
Troubleshooting
Try these in order before emailing — most issues clear up in the first two steps.
- Make sure you're on the latest version of Fool Me Once from the App Store.
- Force-close the app and reopen it.
- Restart your device.
- Check that iOS itself is up to date and you have some free storage.
Reporting a bug
If it's still happening, email me with:
- Your device model (e.g. iPhone 14, iPhone SE)
- Which board it happened on, and what the instruction said
- What you expected vs. what actually happened
- A screenshot or screen recording, if you can grab one
Every board is deterministic — there's exactly one correct answer — so if something ever feels unfair, those details are usually where the real cause is hiding, and the more specific you are, the faster it gets fixed.
Frequently asked
Is my progress saved?
Yes — your best board and your unlock are stored locally on your device. There's no account, so nothing is backed up to a server.
Does it need an internet connection?
No. Fool Me Once plays entirely offline — no login required. (Purchases are handled by the App Store, which needs a connection just for that moment.)
What do I get with the full game?
The first 10 boards are free. The one-time “Full Game” unlock opens all 100 boards, the finale, and Endless mode.
I reinstalled or switched devices — how do I get my purchase back?
Tap “Restore Purchase” (on the unlock screen or the “Read more” screen) while signed in to the same Apple ID you bought it with. There's no charge to restore.
Can I suggest a feature or a new trap?
Always — email it over. Small-scope ideas are the easiest to actually act on.
